How to embrace positivity in January
Whist January may seem like a dark and depressing month, the start of a new year is the perfect time to focus on positivity and self-care! Let’s make January a month of growth and happiness with these simple yet powerful tips:
Start your day feeling grateful
Each morning, write down three things you’re grateful for. It can be as small as a tasty cup of coffee or as big as a meaningful relationship. By thinking positively you will instantly abolish the negative thoughts and feel brighter when you start your day.
Set small but realistic goals
Big resolutions can feel overwhelming. Instead, focus on bite-sized goals that you can achieve daily or weekly. Progress, no matter how small, is still progress!
Surround yourself with positivity
Follow accounts, read books, and spend time with people who uplift and inspire you. Try to remove yourself from people who are overly negative or who make you feel down when you’re around them. What you consume greatly influences your mood, so you want to be as far away from negativity as possible in order to stay positive.
Move your body
A brisk walk, yoga, or even a dance session to your favourite playlist can do wonders for your mental health. Physical activity releases endorphins, aka the “feel-good” hormones, these hormones will instantly help you embrace positivity.
Declutter your space
A clean and organised environment can help clear your mind. Take some time to declutter, donate, or rearrange your surroundings. You’ll find you’ll have so much more space once you’ve decluttered, and you can even make money selling it on second hand sites or apps.
Practice self-compassion
It’s okay to have off days. Instead of being hard on yourself, treat yourself with kindness and understanding. Why not check out my 30 day self-care challenge, you’ll discover lots of different ways to embrace life, try new things and most importantly take care of yourself.
Take breaks from social media
Ever found that everyone looks so happy when you scroll social media? Do you find seeing everyone seemingly having fun, whilst you’re stuck at home zaps your positivity? The fear of missing out (FOMO) is real, but before you start feeling jealous, you need to think is what they’re showing the full picture? People often only show the good things happening in their lives, so they may be having a really hard time and you’ll never know. Give yourself permission to log off and detox from social media. Use that time to read, meditate, or connect with loved ones in person.
Celebrate the little wins
Whether it’s drinking more water or making your bed, acknowledge your efforts when you achieve a goal. You might not be climbing Mount Everest, or discovering the cure for cancer, but every step you take towards achieving something will help you feel more positive about January and your life in general.
