Self care tips and ideas to try in 2024

Is taking better care of yourself one of your New Year’s resolutions? Are you looking for new ways to relax and de-stress? If your answer is yes, then read on for our newest list of self care tips and routines you can incorporate into your life.

Take yourself out on a date

A great way to take care of yourself that does not involve sitting at home and pampering yourself is taking yourself out on a date. This can be a great way to try something new, step out of your comfort zone, and even meet some new people.

Try to think of things you’ve always wanted to do but perhaps never had any company for. For example, if you want to go to an exhibit or eat at a specific restaurant, do it on self-date night.

Watch a concert you’ve been to

A great way to unwind and relax is to relive past memories. Pick a concert or show you’ve seen live and find a recording online. Watch it back and remember how much fun you had. You can put your headphones on and blast the music really loud, dancing around your room.

stay in bed all day

Stay in bed all day

I don’t know about you but staying in bed all day is one of my favourite self care tips as we all need to take a break sometimes. We all sometimes wish the planet would stop spinning for a day so that we can unplug from everything, have no commitments and responsibilities, and unwind.

The closest thing you can do to make this happen is to have a day in bed. Sleep as late as you want, and bring all the entertainment to you. Watch your favourite bad TV, read, draw, eat in bed, or just spend the entire day daydreaming. Make sure to tell friends and family you will be taking a personal day so they don’t get worried.

Try a new wellness routine

Trying a new health or wellness product can be a great way to take care of yourself better this year. Look at the latest health deals online and find something you’ve always wanted to try. Since the product is discounted, you won’t feel as bad if you don’t end up liking it or if it simply does not have the desired and expected results.

Book an online therapy session

Talking to someone about what you are feeling and going through can be the ultimate way to take care of yourself. Sometimes, you need someone completely impartial to listen and perhaps offer some insight or practical advice.

Book yourself a one-time online therapy session and talk your problems out. There are so many apps and online services available you will easily find a therapist you like. If you click with them or really feel the talking is helping, you can make it a regular thing.

self care tips do a digital declutter

Do a digital declutter

While we are collectively getting better at decluttering our homes with Marie Kondo’s clever advice, we tend to neglect our digital spaces.

Take some time to declutter your inbox and your subscription list. Organise your bookmarks and delete everything you no longer have any use for. Delete all unused apps and extensions. Organise your saved posts on Instagram.

Find a new way to organise tasks

Speaking of organisation, you can also try a new way of staying on top of your world. If you are not into Notion yet, this can be a great time to try it out.

You can also try any other productivity app or strategy. Don’t go into this trying to force yourself to like the new way of doing things. Your goal is to try something new and see how it goes. You don’t have to strike gold on the first attempt, and you can’t expect yourself to magically become your most productive version overnight.

Try a new genre of book or movie

When we are trying to indulge in some self-care, we often turn to the things we enjoy the most. We re-read a favourite book or read books from authors we know we will like.

Instead, try branching out into something completely new. Read a book from a genre you have never tried before. Watch a movie from a country you have never watched before. Even if you believe this is not your cup of tea, give it a whirl. Choose a book or movie that fans of the genre praise, and see how it strikes you.

play a new video game

Play a video game

Self-care in the digital age often involves stepping away from screens and spending time outdoors or moving your body. However, you can also take care of yourself and de-stress in the digital world.

Whether you are already a gamer or not, try playing a video game as a form of relaxation. There are so many free ones to try online, so you’ll surely find something you like. You can try a mobile game, a co-op game, or even an online multiplayer you can play with strangers.

Don’t worry if you are not very good at video games. The skill is picked up quite quickly, and no one was born a great gamer.

Find a new favourite beverage

For many, exploring new drinks brings great joy, that’s why it’s high on my list of top self care tips for 2024. Alongside trying new recipes and exploring new cuisines, try to find a new favourite beverage. This can be a new brand of tea or simply a new way to make tea. It can be a new way to brew your morning cup of coffee.

You can also branch out and look for a new cocktail or mocktail or go on a wine- or beer-tasting tour in your local stores.

Treat it as an adventure and an exploration, and make it a point to try something out there every month or every week. Ideally, there will be some prep involved, so you get to hone your skills and have some fun at home with it.
