Getting married is one of the most important times in life. Whether big or small, a wedding day is a day that will be remembered for a lifetime. One of the most important aspects of that day is the venue.

When the venue is just right, it helps make the entire day come together. When it is wrong, seemingly nothing feels right. There are common mistakes to avoid when it comes to choosing a wedding venue.

Not making appointments

When it comes to choosing from wedding venues in London, the single most common mistake is failing to schedule an appointment. Choosing a venue can be an exciting time and many brides want to get into that venue so that style planning can be done. Just don’t forget to set an appointment ahead of checking out the venue.

Sure, it might be possible to see the venue but without the help of the venue coordinator, you’ll miss out on the full experience. By booking an appointment, the venue coordinator is focused on you and you alone. Showing up unannounced means not getting the full venue experience.

The venue coordinator is not the same as the wedding planner

Perhaps a venue has finally been chosen and the wedding planning process can begin in earnest. There are a few people who will work closely with the couple to get the big day going but don’t get them mixed up because they have distinctly different roles. One common mistake is mistaking the venue planner for being the same as the wedding planner. Both not only have completely different roles, but they work for different people.

The wedding planner works for you. They are there to cover every detail of the big day and make sure that it goes off without a hitch. The venue planner works for the venue. Yes, they are there to help you, but they are only handling issues related to the venue itself. The wedding planner will handle every stage of the wedding planning, including vendor coordination, contracts, rehearsal, wedding day prep, and more. Mixing the two up can lead to a major kink in the planning process.

Not considering all aspects

A common mistake made by couples looking to find a wedding venue is focusing on just one aspect. Perhaps the price tag is the focal point. While that can certainly be important, it is just one of several things to take into consideration. Failing to see the entire picture can wind up leading to a subpar venue.

There is a litany of questions that couples should be asking throughout the planning process. How big is the space? What kind of amenities come with that particular venue? What kind of reviews does this venue have? Consider all of the angles because some things are negotiable, and others cannot be compromised. Quickly approving or denying a venue can lead to some serious question marks down the line.

Being disorganised

On the surface, finding a wedding venue doesn’t seem that tough. But when it goes from one venue to half a dozen or more, things can start to be overwhelming. Staying organised is important to the wedding planning process, particularly when trying to decide on a venue.

Organisation means keeping a list of pros and cons of each venue. There will be no missed details and no unanswered questions when each venue is compared to one another. To keep things even more detailed, take pictures and videos of each venue to garner the full experience. Notes can be infinitely beneficial when choosing this important space.

  1. I would suggest looking at the venue with an appointment and without an appointment at a separate date if you are allowed. It’s great getting all the details needed for a wedding but it is also nice to see the venue at your own pace and in a more relaxing manner too

  2. Someone at work was getting married. He told me how much cheaper it is to get married during the week rather than at weekends. Also the time of year makes a big difference to price.

    1. 100% Companies know most people will have a wedding at the weekend as more people will be able to attend. Sad that they have to hike the prices up so much.
