How I got rid of red itchy skin with three budget beauty products
If you suffer from skin redness and itchy skin you’ve probably tried endless products trying to treat the issue. If you’re nodding then keep reading, this article is for you, I’ve been where you are.
I’ve always had good skin until recently, when in June 2024 it suddenly became cracked, red, sore and itchy. I tried endless products trying to the problem, and I would think it was working.. till it wasn’t. That was until I happened on to the solution, and i’m going to share the secret with you.
So what causes itchy skin? There are many reasons you could have itchy skin, but the most common are dry skin and skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and contact dermatitis. For me I think my main issue stemmed from dry skin, and it just snowballed. If that too is your main issue I’ll show you how can get rid of your red, itchy skin with three budget beauty products. Let me reveal how to stop itchy skin.
Byoma Hydrating serum
The Byoma range is typically marketed at teenagers and is generally considered a lot gentler on the skin.
The Hydrating serum is formulated with a tri-ceramide complex containing Squalane and glycerin that helps to hydrate your skin and repair the skin barrier.
After cleansing my face I apply Byoma Hydrating serum and let it sink into my skin whilst I brush my teeth. The serum isn’t sticky and is absorbed pretty quickly. I use this as a base and apply the other products on top to lock the hydration in.
The serum is only available in two sizes, neither which are particularly big annoyingly, but a 30ml bottle will last around a month. You can buy it here.
Primark Hey Hunny Nourish and Glow face and body balm
They say honey is great as a beauty product for a reason- namely its ability to reduce redness and promote healing. If you’re suffering from red, sore itchy skin then the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits within honey will help your skin to heal and repair itself.
After the Byoma Hydrating serum has sunk in I apply Hey Hunny on top, smothering a good layer over the bottom of my face and neck. The balm is quite sticky and has the consistency of Vaseline. My hair does stick to it a bit if it gets too close but I think that’s a small price to pay for good skin.
It’s best to apply Hey Hunny balm solely at night as it gives it time to sink into, and you don’t want a sticky base when applying your makeup. By morning the product is fully absorbed and you’re free to apply your morning skincare.
You can buy Hey Hunny for £3.50 in store.
Simple Protect n Glow Rest and Reset hydrating gel
Simple Protect n Glow hydrating gel contains key ingredients like Vitamin C, E and organic Ginger Root extract to reset dull and tired skin. It boosts your skins own natural renewal process and helps to promote a healthy glow.
I apply my Byoma Hydrating serum first, then I apply Simple Protect n Glow Hydrating gel. It has a light gel consistency that literally feels like silk when massaging it into my skin. It’s marketed as a night cream but it’s light enough to use as a moisturiser so I apply it in the morning. It doesn’t feel heavy on my skin and takes a couple of minutes to absorb.
I bought the gel for around £6 in Asda however I think it’s been redesigned as I can’t find the original anywhere online (at a reasonable price). You can find it on Amazon/ eBay if you want to pay inflated prices.
By using a combination of these three budget beauty products I found my skin had started to improve. It’s not as red as it was and the dryness has pretty much all gone. I get the occasional itch but it doesn’t itch all day like it used to.
Do let me know in the comments if you try these products and if they work for you.

What an improvement these products made to your skin. My daughter finds simple products have eased her skin rashes and she has just purchased several Byoma products to try so fingers crossed these will help her too x
This is a great post as I too have red itchy skin. I will certainly try these out
I suffer from rosacea and have been looking for different skincare that won’t worsen it, will definitely give this a look
I’m prone to rosacea and found that using a face cloth was exacerbating it – it’s improved dramatically since I started just using my fingers to clean my face.
I have eczema and super thirsty skin that will just not stay hydrated during the day. I’ve been eyeing up tat byoma serum and its great to hear it actually works for you – and that it works under makeup as I’m fed up with filmy, pilling serums. Wish I’d read this yesterday though as I was actually near a Primark!
