The best skin care products for oily skin
If you suffer with oily skin it can be hard to keep your makeup on for longer then a few hours. I’ve found some of the best skin care products designed specifically for oily skin
When you have oily skin it can be a battle to keep the shine and spots at bay. As someone who always seems to have a oily t-zone I know the struggle is real. Whilst there are many cosmetics that promise to keep your skin matte, it’s often better to treat the problem rather then cover it up. There are many fantastic skin care treatments designed specifically for oily skin. I will break it down so you have the best skin care products which you can use for each part of your skin care routine.
Cleanser
Cleanser is important to use in your skin care routine as it can help to remove the impurities in your skin. Make sure your cleanser is fragrance free and kind to skin with a formula that is non drying. Contrary to why you might think drying out your skin won’t help stop your skin being oily (you’ll just add another problem to the mix). Here’s three of the best cleansers to choose from.
Cetaphil oily skin cleanser
It’s not overly fancy and doesn’t have lots of bells and whistles but it does what it says on the tin. It uses a gentle foam to help remove up to 60% of oil without drying out your skin. Great for oily or combination skin.
Clarins Gentle Foaming cleanser
A cleanser that combines the gentleness of a cleansing milk whilst still having the effective cleansing properties of soap. It contains Tamarind fruit acids to specifically treat oily and combination skin.
Youth Lab daily cleanser
Youth Lab daily cleanser is a three in one product that can help to remove makeup, impurities and excess oil whilst controlling how much sebum your skin produces. Your skin will be left feeling smooth and moisturised.
Exfoliator
The main reason oily skin is prone to breakouts is the increase of sebum which traps dead skin cells in your pores. This leads to bacteria growing in your pores and the inevitable spots you work so hard to try and avoid. The best way of giving your skin a helping hand in eliminating dead skin cells is to exfoliate. You’ll want to look for products that contain salicylic acid and glycolic acid. Salicylic acid will help to penetrate even the oiliest skin and unclog pores. Glycolic acid on the other hand works at exfoliating the top layer of your skin. Here’s three of my favourite exfoliators which certainly earn their place as some of the best skin care products for oily skin.
Sukin Oil Balancing + Charcoal Pore Refining facial scrub
The scrub has been formulated with a blend of jojoba beads and bamboo charcoal to help get deep into your pores whilst removing toxins and impurities for a fresh smooth appearance. The active ingredients include Willowherb, coconut oil and Rooibos tea which help to promote cell renewal and prevent breakouts whilst moisturising skin and leaving it irritation free. It’s also sulphate and paraben free.
Kiehl’s Pineapple Papaya facial scrub
Give some natural goodness to your skin with this fruit enriched facial scrub. It contains natural grains to help exfoliate your skin and leaving it feeling soft.
Wilma Schumann Exfoliating facial serum
If you want to splash out a little then Wilma Schumann is the one to buy. It harnesses the power of salicylic acid and glycolic acid to gentle exfoliate and eliminate dead skin cells without drying your skin out. Your skin will be left looking youthful and glowing.
Toners
Toners can help treat a multitude of common skin problems whilst having the benefit of being a makeup remover too. Like a cleanser they can remove oil build up and impurities but they can also restore hydration to your skin. They can also help to soothe your skin. Here’s two of the best toners to get started.
Paula’s Choice Calm Redness relief toner
Calm Redness Relief has a gentle formula that calms and relieves oily skin that’s prone to redness. It contains both antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties to treat the problem at the source. After use your skin will feel hydrated and the redness will reduce.
Caudalie Vinopure Clear Skin purifying toner
Vinopure is a eco friendly product that harnesses the benefits of natural properties. It contains salicylic acid to treat blocked pores whilst antioxidant grape polyphenols and essential oils like rosemary cleanse the skin without drying.
Moisturiser
Whilst you may think using a moisturiser when your face is as shiny as a oil slick is a rubbish idea, it actually has many benefits. Whilst your skin may seem oily on the surface, underneath it may be a lot drier than you think. Dry skin needs moisture to function properly and I’ve found 2 fabulous moisturisers designed specifically for oily skin.
Clinique Dramatically Different moisturising gel
The best way to moisturised skin is through a moisture drink. Developed by Clinique dermatologists the formula works at restoring your skins optimal moisture balance. Over time it will help to soften, smooth and ultimately improve the condition of your skin.
Uriage Hyseac High Protection emulsion for combination to oily skin
The holy grail of all moisturisers, this helps to control your levels of sebum whilst proving SPF30 to help protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays. It will moisturise your skin leaving it protected, hydrated and matte.
