After a long stressful day at work the first thing we want to do after kicking off our shoes is to flip on the tv. Whilst I have to say I’m a total telly addict – especially Netflix originals – sometimes mooching out in the telly isn’t the best way to unwind and relieve stress. What we need is something that takes our mind off the stresses of the day – to forget the tedious rituals that come hand in hand with work. Here’s of the best ways to destress and relax after a hard day at work.
Do the washing up
For this tip you need to avoid the dishwasher as it won’t work otherwise. The repetitive motion of washing your dishes requires a fair amount of focus – this focus makes you forget any negative thoughts you may have swimming around your head.
Exercising is good for you dontcha know? Whilst going to the gym or running is a good way of getting exercise they’re not the most fun methods. Dance classes are extremely energetic, get your heart pumping and release those vital endorphins.
What’s making you smile right now
A bit of a reverse on the traditional ‘write down what’s stressing you out.’ Thinking about what’s making you happy right now will raise a smile and make you feel happier inside. This in turn will help to reduce your stress levels.
Give yourself a massage
You don’t need a partner to massage you (although that would be nice), self massage is a great way of relieving any soreness created through poor posture/sitting at a desk all day. There’s lots of self massage techniques on the internet that you can follow.
Eat ice cream
There’s something quite satisfying about eating ice cream straight from the tub. It will take you back to your childhood to a time when you didn’t have any worries.
Watch funny cat videos
Cliche I know but there’s nothing that takes your mind off daily pressures more than hilarious cat videos. From cats pressing doorbells to getting trapped in amongst a load of drink cans I can’t get enough of them!
Have a bubble bath
A lovely hot bath complete with bubbles and a lovely smelling Lush bath bomb is a great way to let go of your day. You can let the warm water soothe your sore muscles and just let your minds worries slip away.
Listen to the sound of nature
You know how when it’s raining outside you can’t help but listen to the soothing sound and feel all cosy inside? Well there’s a little science that’s responsible for that. Nature sounds, including those of birds singing and crickets chirruping are perfect for drawing your attention towards them- subsequently forgetting about all those inner voices that contribute towards you feeling stressed.
Read a good book
I’m definitely guilty of not reading enough and I should as it’s one of the best stress busters. A good book will pull you into its story and you’ll find yourself loving their story and imagining the action unfolding. You’ll be so engrossed you won’t have time to worry about issues at work.
