With all the snow, rain and grey skies we’ve been experiencing recently memories of summer sun seems so far away. If the thought of poolside cocktails and dips in the pool sounds like heaven then have you thought about a winter sun holiday? Jetting off to sunnier climes in winter is a great way of refreshing your batteries and giving you a break from the British winter. If you’re looking for inspiration on where to head for your winter sun I would highly recommend Marbella.
Marbella is a gorgeous sun kissed city that is warm virtually all year round. Centred in Southern Spain’s Costa Del Sol, Marbella sits on the Mediterranean Sea guaranteeing warm sunny weather even in the middle of January. It’s only around 2 1/2 hours from London and as it’s in Europe you can get a great deal for around £300 on average for a weeks holiday in a 3 star hotel. I headed to Marbella in September for my cousins hen do. Marbella’s many bars and clubs are virtually on the doorstep of their golden sandy beaches. The local vicinity means you don’t have to travel far and can quickly pop to your hotel before you head out for a night of partying. There are a few prestigious bars that hold pool parties during the day including the bar that we visited, La Sala by The Sea. They are a little expensive but if you can book through a package it’s a experience you wouldn’t want to miss. We had great fun sunbathing on a sun bed, eating our complimentary fruit and dipping our toes in the pool when it got too hot. If you are visiting on a hen weekend, you’ll find that some bars are more then happy to offer a special champagne breakfast. Our breakfast was attended by a gorgeous butler in the buff who filled up our champagne glasses and had a little fun with a banana.
The restaurants are plentiful and varied with a choice of Spanish, Italian, american, French and English dishes to choose from. I had the most amazing decadent cocktail from the Italian Picasso which had an amazing fruit surprise included.
If shopping is more your thing, Marbella is situated very close to Puerto Banus marina, a upmarket destination surrounded by luxury yachts and upmarket boutiques such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Gucci, Burberry and more. Banus Marina Mall is also very close by and hosts high street favourites such as H&M and Zara.
If you’re not such a fan of the nightlife and prefer the cultural experience there’s plenty to see and do. Selwo Marina is a marine park with dolphins and sea lions, perfect for entertaining the kids or having a break from the pool. If you want to see the views Sohail Castle is a good choice, and it regularly hosts concerts so you can really immerse yourself in the cultural experience. There are lots of boat and food tours so you can see the signs and taste the culture of Spain. You can even go off road and try out a tour where you experience local wildlife and nature. Andalucia Eco Tours is a great way of seeing deer, mouflon and chameleons. You may even get the chance to get up close and personal.
Marbella is a great destination for sun, sea and sand. The weather is amazing and it has a good mix of bars, clubs, cultural activities, tourist hotspots and great restaurants. Now you know where you want to go you’ll need to know the best place to book it. Holiday Gems is a great budget holiday website that offers great deals. Perfect for booking your winter sun holiday, you’ll find inspiration for any other trips you want to visit in 2018 or for future holidays.
