Intensive Conditioning

Keeping with the conditioning theme, there are several intensive conditioners that can give your hair a moisturising boost that will bring out the natural shine and lustre that your hair has been lacking. These treatments range in price and can seem confusing to choose from. Total Beauty has put together a list of 13 of them to give you more information to make your purchase.

Happy conditioning!

Give Yourself a Scalp Massage

If your bank balance won’t stretch as far as a spa trip, you can always give yourself a pretty decent head massage to stimulate your hair follicles and get you nice and relaxed. With some simple instructions, you could become a pro at the art of head massage

Women’s Health magazine has a great guide to doing just this from a former shampoo girl no less.

9 haircare saviours for Winter you don't want to miss coconut oil

Crazy for Coconut

Coconut has had such a revival in the last few years, entering many people’s homes as much more than just an exotic bite to eat. Now, people use coconut oil for cooking, beauty treatments and even for your (soon-to-be) luscious locks.

At Natural Living Ideas, they have a guide to using coconut oil for a deep conditioning treatment which includes:-

  1. Wash your hair and let it air dry while you prepare the coconut oil
  2. Make sure you have the following available:-
  • Comb or hair pick
  • Shower cap or small towel
  • Two bowls of different sizes (one needs to fit inside the other)
  • Organic virgin coconut oil
  1. Scoop a small amount of coconut oil into the smaller bowl and place this inside the larger bowl
  2. Fill the larger bowl with hot water so that the smaller bowl is partially submerged
  3. When the oil comes to the optimum temperature and is completely melted, use your fingers to work it into your hair. Use a comb or hair pick to work this through from root to tip
  4. Wrap your hair in a shower cap or towel and leave to soak in for 30 minutes or more (the longer the better)
  5. Shampoo your hair to remove oil

This method is also said to help with hair growth too!

Haircare While You Sleep

The thought of doing good to yourself without even trying would appeal to anyone. Working on the same principle as putting on face cream at night, or moisturising your feet and putting on moisturising socks to soak in the lotions and potions, you could be reviving your hair while you catch 40 winks.

Just look for an overnight hair masque that offers lots of lovely smelling and nourishing ingredients. Argan oil is a great ingredient for your hair, and can be found in Superdrug’s hair therapy overnight masque for just £4.99.

Go ‘Au Naturale’

Have you thought about using avocado to give your hair a little ‘tszuj’? Psychologies magazine have a recipe for a DIY avocado hair shine mask that your hair will love you for. Just as with coconut oil, it’s super easy and you can make this natural recipe at home within minutes. Your hair will also smell like rosemary – delicious.

A Nourishing Hairspray

If you love to keep your ‘do’ in position using hairspray, especially on a big night out, why not invest in one that will also nourish your hair while keeping it place? For a cheap and cheerful option, Boots have this Mark Hill nourishing hairspray. Or, if you’re feeling crafty, this DIY nourishing hairspray from Simple Beauty should see you right.

Dry Scalp?

Do you suffer from a dry scalp? Reasons for this can include everything from anxiety and stress to not drinking enough water. Having a dry, itchy and flaky scalp can be very irritating especially when you have many social functions to attend – no one wants a flaky, dry scalp when you need to look glam. Learn what could be causing this by visiting Dry Scalp Gone, as well as finding the right remedy for your hair and scalp.

Gently Does It

Have you considered that your hairbrush could be damaging your hair? Invest in a gentle hairbrush that works with your hair, not against it, to keep you tangle free. Bustle have a list of eight great brushes for damaged hair.

The Power of Ginger

Another natural remedy that will help your hair to look gorgeous: ginger. This spice is a natural antiseptic that reduces inflammation of the scalp, it nourishes the scalp and kills the fungi that causes dandruff. It can also prevent thinning and dryness. No wonder companies such as The Body Shop have brought out an anti-dandruff shampoo using ginger.
